Patrol Squadron 16 (VP-16) WESTPAC CRUISE 2008 Established as Reserve Patrol Squadron NINE HUNDRED SIX (VP-906) in May 1946. Redesignated Medium Seaplane Squadron FIFTY SIX (VP-ML-56) on 15 November 1946. Redesignated Patrol Squadron SEVEN HUNDRED FORTY ONE (VP-741) in February 1950. Redesignated Patrol Squadron SIXTEEN (VP-16) on 4 February 1953, the third squadron to be assigned the VP-16 designation. Lockheed PV-2/PBY-5A/PBY-6A Harpoon, 1946-1950 Lockheed P2V-2/3/5/5F Neptune, 1950-1962 Lockheed SP-2E Neptune, 1962-1964 Lockheed P-3A/A DIFAR/C/C UII.5/C UIIIR, 1964-2012 Boeing P-8A Poseidon, 2012-. Insignia (2nd) “Eagle” approved by CNO on 30 Oct 1953.
