Fourth Allied Tactical Air Force Active 2 Apr 1952 - 30 Jun 1993 During the Cold War, West Germany's air space was divided into two areas for purposes of aircraft operations: 2 ATAF encompassed Northern Germany (supporting Northern Army Group ground forces) and 4 ATAF covered all of Southern Germany (supporting Central Army Group ground forces).
