US Military Patches

2d Airborne Command and Control Squadron Glory Trip
Designed in 1993 by Maj Greg Ogletree for Missile Combat Crew Members--Airborne who directly participate in the test launch of an ICBM commanded from an ALCS-equipped aircraft. Direct participation in an ALCS Glory Trip was denoted by the addition of a silver star device for each such mission. A gold star was worn in lieu of a silver star if the wearer actually "turned keys" (i.e., launched the missile) on the mission. This design was intentionally generic because the typical ALCS crew member participated in a number of such missions, whereas very few ground-based missileers are ever selected for a Glory Trip and of those who are, it's a one-time good deal (ergo, a unique patch for each launch). This patch subsequently proved popular with 7 ACCS aircrews too, after the 2 ACCS inactivated.
