US Military Patches

8th Airborne Command and Control Squadron
This patch was the first to be used by the unit, and dates from the period during which it was based at Langley AFB flying EC-121 aircraft. I could find no record of its official approval, or of its even being submitted for such, but it wouldn't have passed muster anyway because of the "8" (numbers or letters within the design area are specifically prohibited). Nevertheless, the emblem subsequently approved for this unit retained three of the elements used on this patch (globe, flash, and aircraft symbol), as well as the same basic colors and general layout and look.
