Redesignated: Patrol Bombing Squadron TWENTY TWO (VPB-22) on 1 Oct 1944; Patrol Squadron TWENTY TWO (VP-22) on 15 May 1946; Medium Patrol Squadron (Seaplane) TWO (VP-MS-2) on 15 Nov 1946; Patrol Squadron FORTY TWO (VP-42) on 1 Sep 1948, the second squadron to be assigned the VP-42 designation.
