Pacific Air Forces Base Command Base Flight T-33
On 1 July 1956, Pacific Air Force was redesignated Pacific Air Force/Far East Air Forces (Rear), and on 1 July 1957 FEAF relocated from Japan to Hickam AFB and changed its name to Pacific Air Forces (Pacific Air Force inactivated on the same day). Concurrent with FEAF’s move to Hickam and its renaming, the 6486 ABW became the Pacific Air Forces Base Command, with the same mission of support to all units assigned, attached, or transient through the base.
It’s important to note that PAFBC didn’t replace the 6486 ABW, it was merely a second name for it. Curiously, there was apparently no set way to type the organizational name. It can be found in print both as “Pacific Air Forces Base Command (Headquarters, 6486th Air Base Wing, PACAF)” and “Headquarters, 6486th Air Base Wing (Pacific Air Forces Base Command).” The parenthetical and non-parenthetical terms seem to have been used interchangeably. Letterhead used by the organization during the late 1950s and early 1960s includes the emblem approved for the 6486 ABW but with “Pacific Air Forces Base Command” displayed on the scroll below the shield. Clearly, these two organizations were, for all intents and purposes, one and the same.
Japan made.
