1704th Reconnaissance Squadron (Provisional) U-2 Operation DESERT STORM 1991 On 21 Sep 1990 OL-CH was designated 1704th Reconnaissance Squadron (Provisional). During the deployment (Aug 90-Feb 91) U-2s flew 564 missions; 4,561.6 hours flown. The Operation DESERT STORM name was used until August 1992 when it was renamed Operation SOUTHERN WATCH.
