33d Air Division

Although this patch displays "33d AIR DIVISION" on its scroll, the emblem on the shield is for the Washington Air Defense Sector. When the sector was replaced in 1966 by the 33d Air Division, either someone incorrectly believed the WADS emblem would continue to be used and therefore ordered a batch of the pictured patch, or an unsuccessful attempt was made to make the WADS emblem the new official emblem of the 33 AD. Either way, this is a patch that was never approved, but was worn for a short time. -GWO
