Fighter Squadron 74 A (VF-74A) & Fighter Squadron 1 B (VF-1B)

Established as Fighter Squadron SEVENTY FOUR A (VF-74A) on 1 May 1945. Redesignated Fighter Squadron SEVENTY FOUR (VF-74) (2nd) on 1 Aug 1945; Fighter Squadron ONE B (VF-1B) on 15 Nov 1946; Fighter Squadron SEVENTY TWENTY ONE (VF-21) (2nd) on 1Sep 1948; Attack Squadron FORTY THREE (VA-43) on 1 Jul 1959; Fighter Squadron FORTY THREE (VF-43) (5th) on 1 Jun 1973. Disestablished on 1 Jul 1994.

Insignia. Designed by Ens. Bud Wood just prior to deploying on USS Midway (CVB-41) in early 1946. The insignia was never approoved but it was put on the squadrons F4Us in white. It is assumed that this insiginia was discontinued when the squadron became VF-21.
