Thule Air Base, Greenland Operation BLUEJAY 1951 Blue Jay started as a secret project, but was made public in September 1952. With coordination between all 3 military branches and thousands of men working around the clock 7 days a week, in only 104 days Thule was operational. This resulted in a bomber and interceptor base 2000 miles closer to the USSR. Note: patch says "PROJECT" on it, though it was known as an "OPERATION".
