Class 2027-04 Initial Pilot Training The new USAF Initial Pilot Training (IPT) program started in 2025 and is a 4.5-month civilian-led flight program. There are 6 civilian IFT locations. It replaces the legacy Initial Flight Training (IFT) phase, helping aspiring military pilots earn their Private Pilot License (PPL), Instrument Rating, and Multi-Engine qualification before entering formal Undergraduate Pilot Training. Once completed they return to a FUPT base to continue training.
