9 Nov 1967, USS Bennington (CVS-20), CVSG-59, Sikorsky SH-3A Sea King

 Apollo 4 recovery, First test flight of Saturn V, placed a CSM in a high Earth orbit; demonstrated S-IVB restart; qualified CM heat shield to lunar reentry speed.
