Iceland Defense Force
Charged with protecting Iceland, IDF was a subordinate unified command of United States Atlantic Command, and later United States Joint Forces Command. From October 2002 until its disbandment, it was under the control of the United States European Command. It was composed of United States Navy, US Marine Corps, and US Air Force personnel as well as local Icelandic civilians. In addition, there were a few Army and Coast Guard personnel attached.
