US Military Patches

323d Fighter-Interceptor Squadron
First patch for the new unit. When the Dog was grounded the pilots had almost nothing to do. The Dog was grounded due to fleet-wide fuel control problems with the early F-86Ds. Elk skin was used to fabricate a few patches by hand according to Col. Byrnes, USAF Ret. The elk skin hand-painted patches were used while the unit awaited the arrival of the cloth examples. At the time, the unit only had a few assigned pilots and airplanes.
