307th Strategic Wing B-52D Project PAVE BUFF PAVE BUFF was a pathfinder operation in which AN/ARN-92 LORAN equipped B-52Ds would lead a three-ship cell to the target. After bomb release the pathfinder would orbit for 50 minutes, then lead a second cell to the target. LORAN stood for LOng RAnge Navigation. Only two such B-52Ds were available in the theater.
