186th Air Refueling Wing MC-12 Project LIBERTY
The name Project Liberty was derived from the Liberty cargo ships built by the U.S. during World War II. The ships were cheap and quick to build and symbolized U.S. wartime industrial output. The two-and-a-half year training program developed into a "bridge" mission maintaining critical manpower support as the 186th ARW awaited arrival of the C-27J transport aircraft this October 2012. However, cuts in Department of Defense spending eliminated the C-27J from the active inventory and in 2013, the wing returned to flying the Boeing KC-135
