Established as Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED TWO (VB-102) on 15 Feb 1943. Redesignated Patrol Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED TWO (VPB-102) on 1 Oct 1944; Patrol Squadron ONE HUNDRED TWO (VP-102) on 15 May 1946; Heavy Patrol Squadron (Landplane) TWO (VP-HL-2) on 15 Nov 1946; Patrol Squadron TWENTY TWO (VP-22) on 1 Sep 1948, the third squadron to be assigned the VP-22 designation. Disestablished on 31 Mar 1994.
Insignia approved on 29 Jun 1944, discontinued on 9 Oct 1951.
