Chinese American Composite Wing (Provisional)
Initially formed as the 1st Bomb Group (Provisional) and the 3rd Fighter Group (Provisional), Republic of China Air Force on 31 Jul 1943. Established as Chinese American Composite Wing (Provisional), USAAF, and activated on 1 Oct 1943. Inactivated on 1 Aug 1945.

Most CACW bases existed near the boundary of Japanese-Occupied China, and one "Valley Field" existed in an area within Japanese-held territory. Specific field locations include Hanchung, Ankang, Hsian, Laohokow, Enshih, Liangshan, Peishyi, Chihkiang, Hengyang, Kweilin, Liuchow, Chanyi, Suichwan, and Lingling.

On 15 Jun 1944 the long history behind the adoption of an authoritative CACW insignia came to its successful conclusion. As far back as late March it had been planned to adopt an insignia for CACW. By late May a design submitted by Captain Harry L. Kebric had been tentatively adopted. To make the dragon in his design look less reluctant, and to get a typical Chinese dragon into the composition, Captain Kebric had the design further developed by Mr. Chen Yen Chian, an artist on the staff of the Kweilin Office of War Information, OWI. This improved design was adopted at the 15 Jun meeting of the Wing Insignia Selection Committee, and was submitted, through channels, to the War Board for final approval.
