Organized as 29 Aero Squadron on 10 Oct 1918. Demobilized on 12 Sep 1919. Reconstituted, and consolidated (5 Mar 1935) with the 29 Pursuit Squadron, which was constituted on 24 Mar 1923. Activated on 1 Oct 1933. Redesignated as: 29 Pursuit Squadron (Interceptor) on 6 Dec 1939; 29 Fighter Squadron on 15 May 1942; 29 Fighter Squadron (Single Engine) in 1943; 29 Fighter Squadron, Single Engine on 20 Aug 1943. Inactivated on 25 May 1944. Activated on 21 Jul 1944. Redesignated as 29 Fighter Squadron, Jet Propelled on 18 Jan 1946. Inactivated on 3 Jul 1946.
Insignia approved on 15 Mar 1935. US made, Chain stitched on wool.
